ARSON DETECTION CANINES

In the early 1980’s the use of canines to aid in the detection of accelerant in a fire investigation was first proposed.

Arson Detection Canines can detect accelerant odor up to 18 days after the fire. They have the ability to discriminate and detect scents at low levels. Canines can smell accelerants in smaller concentrations than any portable scientific equipment presently available. They work very rapidly and are highly accurate. They can easily gain access into smaller confined spaces.

They assist the fire investigation in other ways such as equipment searches, vehicle searches, clothing searches and crowd searches.

Arson Detection canines also work as a deterrent to arsonists.
